February 2018 Monthly Update

UPDATE FROM JAMI

  1. Our Method: To mobilize the Body of Christ to serve, mentor and support the foster care community.
    • What does this mean? We want to encourage others to serve. We want to equip others to serve AND we want to inspire others to action. That is how we mobilize, it’s not us doing it, it’s empowering others to do it.
    • And serve, mentor and support – we want to help people find their unique talents and unique calling and how they can get involved in the foster care community. Not everyone is going to be a foster parent and that is okay. Our job is to help people find what they are good at and then get them involved.
  2. QBQ: Question Behind the Question
    • We have given each one of you this book and we really believe in it! It’s all about practicing personal accountability in work and life. The author highlights how we often ask “incorrect questions.” For us in the foster care space, some of those questions might be:
      • Why is our agency rep. not accepting our help?
      • When is the pastor going to let us….(fill in the blank)?
      • How can I engage more churches?
      • Why is the foster care community so broken.
    • Those first set of questions are negative and aren’t going to help solve any problems. So, instead, we want to ask the “correct” questions:
      • How can I help our agency reps. know I truly care?
      • What are things I can do to change my approach with our pastor?
      • What can TFI do to make it as easy as possible for churches to get involved?
      • How can I be faithful today?
    • I want to encourage you to read this book. It’s a super short read! Some chapters are only ONE page. Take a few minutes a day to read–you won’t regret it!
  3. I want to finish with some encouragement from the Bible:
    • The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand. I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. – Psalm 37:24-25

UPDATE FROM JILLIAN
