Did you know…

-To be a licensed foster home, you are required to have a 5lb fire extinguisher?

-There are about 15 kinship homes in our area right now waiting to get licensed to be a foster family?

So, what is a kinship home?

-Kinship care refers to the care of children by relatives or, in some cases, close family friends (often referred to as fictive kin).

-Relatives are the preferred resource for children who must be removed from their birth parents because it helps maintain the children’s connections with their families, increases stability, and overall minimizes the trauma of family separation.

-Many times kinship homes aren’t licensed as foster homes. Kinship families usually take the kinship care roll when they get a call that a family member’s child needs a place to go. This means they are scrambling to get everything the child needs on short notice and spending quite a bit of money to do so.

-When a kinship family gets licensed as a foster family, the children in their home are able to have access to more resources! BUT they can’t get licensed without a fire extinguisher!🧯
