Helping churches support foster care agencies across America.

Caseworker burnout and turnover have devastating impacts on children in foster care. It contributes to increased time in foster care, higher risk of placement disruptions, and decreased chance of permanency.
One impact study done in a local child welfare office in Milwaukee County found that children who had one consistent caseworker achieved permanency 74.5% of the time. If they had two caseworkers, that number dropped to 17.5%. In cases where children had six or seven case workers, their permanency rate was 0.1%.
We envision the day when caseworkers are remaining and thriving in their roles because every foster care caseworker is supported by local churches, faithfully reflecting the redemptive love of Christ.

Well supported caseworkers will more effectively serve children, leading to better outcomes for everyone.

The Forgotten Initiative helps churches support foster care agencies across America through:

awareness, encouragement, and advocacy.

This is why we train local church lay leaders to be “salt” and “light” providing tangible, emotional, and spiritual support to caseworkers in their communities.

Over the past 13 years, we’ve seen that being salt and light is attractive to these caseworkers, regardless of their faith, what part of the country they live, or whether they work in state or private agencies.

The Biblical call to care for the forgotten.

Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.

Isaiah 58:10-12
