Core Value #4 – Celebrate!
We are celebrating with Carissa Wright in St. Clair County, AL! She received this note from a worker in her area. Even the small things we do, can bring hope to the forgotten. Be encouraged. Thank you, Carissa, for sharing this great note with us! We love celebrating with all of you! Let us know about stories of God moving in your community.
“I am so appreciative of the Forgotten Initiative! I have seen this amazing resource bless so many life’s. I was working with a family where two of the children came into foster care right around school starting.
The children assumed they were not going to have school supplies. When we got to the office, they seen numerous backpacks FULL of school supplies. They were amazed with people’s generosity.
The children asked why the people chose to do this. I explained that God tells us to give back and love one another. I then showed them the backpacks made for them. They were so excited and appreciative! Every item they pulled out was like Christmas!
They wanted my full attention as they showed me their new things. Their mother arrived at the office to visit with them shortly after be given their backpacks.
The kids were so excited to show mama! The mother’s eyes filled with tears as she said thank you. After the visit, the mother asked to speak with myself privately and stated that she did not know how she was going to get them ready for school this year and to see them this happy because of what others did gave her hope.”
We have a new Advocate!
Welcome Lynnette Lovasco in Massachusetts, just north of Boston.
Meet Mitch, our new Graphic Designer!
We just got back from this year’s Advocate Retreat.
It was such a blessing to be with almost half of you! We missed those of you who were not able to be there. Save the Date for next year! September 26-28, 2018 in Rome, GA.
Go to theforgotteninitiative.org/retreat17 and you will find all the videos and slides from the retreat coming soon!
QBQ Book.
At the Retreat we handed out the book QBQ to every Advocate. This book helps us learn more about “the question behind the question.” We want everyone to read QBQ because it will help us better serve our agencies and churches and learning “how can I help make this happen” rather than saying, “why are they doing this?” If you were not at the Retreat, be on the lookout in your mailbox for the book.
We have a new resource!
It’s a Foster Parent’s Night Out Guide. Kristin Solomon talked about Foster Parent’s Night Out at the Retreat, and you can check out her talk on this on the Retreat page and the whole packet is listed there AND the Resource Page under TFI Family Support.
