Episode 287: They’re Still Just Kids – Saying Yes to Teens in Foster Care with Missy Bell

By February 6, 2026March 12th, 2026The Forgotten Podcast

In this episode of The Forgotten Podcast, Jami sits down with Missy Bell, Director of Olive Crest San Diego, to talk about the often-overlooked need for families willing to say yes to teens in foster care.

Drawing from years of ministry with adolescents and her work supporting vulnerable families, Missy shares why teenagers in foster care are frequently misunderstood—and why they still deeply need the guidance, consistency, and care of trusted adults. Many teens enter the system carrying significant trauma, which can affect their emotional development and behavior, but Missy reminds listeners that they are still kids who need love, stability, and someone willing to believe in them.

Together, Jami and Missy address common fears families have about fostering or adopting teenagers and offer encouragement for those who feel a tug toward this need but aren’t sure where to begin. Missy also highlights the importance of strong community support, realistic expectations, and perseverance as foster families walk alongside teens through challenges and growth.

This conversation is a powerful reminder that when adults choose faith over fear, their steady presence can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.
