1. There is hope.
Across the last 10 years, we’ve heard countless stories and situations that make our hearts ache. And while the foster care community brushes up against some of the darkest spaces and circumstances, there is so much hope in these stories, too! We’ve seen how God has been writing and weaving these stories. He truly is the one Savior and Rescuer.

2. Hone your focus and mission.
After nearly 15 years of running The Forgotten Initiative, we’ve refined the focus and direction of our mission. While we initially aimed to support the foster care community broadly, it became clear over time where our contributions could have the greatest impact. Today, our core focus is on supporting the often-overlooked caseworker—because we know that well-supported people are better able to support others. By helping reduce caseworker burnout and turnover, we not only empower these dedicated professionals, but we also improve outcomes for the children in foster care.

3. God is still writing the story.
We’ve seen it time and time again how God has reached out to the hurting, the biological family, the child in foster care, the foster family, and to us. We can often try to step in and take on the role of savior, but that isn’t a role that has a vacancy! We are not called to be the savior. We are called to faithfully love and support those in the foster care community—all while knowing that God is in control.

Meet Our Guest Host
Jamie Finn is the biological, adoptive, and foster mother of 4-6 children. When she’s not homeschooling, changing diapers, playing Pokemon, making slime, and singing “Let it Go,” she spends her time encouraging, equipping, and serving foster and adoptive parents. She is the host of the Real Mom Podcast, co-founder of Goods & Better, and the director of Foster the Family, a nonprofit that encourages and supports foster and adoptive families, mobilizes the church and community, and advocates for vulnerable children. Jamie lives with her husband of 16 years, Alan, in New Jersey with their children.
